U.S. Merchant Series WW2 “End of an Era” Series

The eight ships featured in the “End of an Era” series were designed and built for the U.S. Maritime Commission during WW2 (1939-1945). These ships were operated by various U.S. shipping companies and a large number  of these ships were operated by the War Shipping Administration. After WW2 ended, many of these ships were sold and/or loaned to foreign interests but the majority remained under the U.S. flag and served our shipping interests well for several decades. Though a few of these great ships remain, they are now laid-up in our reserve fleet (mothballed) and for the most part the era has ended.

A quote from the famous writer John Masefield (1878-1967) best sums it up with these poignant words:

“They mark our passage as a  race of men,
earth will not see such ships as those again.”

 • These magnificent ships are portrayed in pencil drawings and the complete series consists of (8) eight ships of WW2 vintage which were the backbone of the United States Merchant Marine during WW2.
 • Series consists of the following: C-1, C-2, C-3, C-4, Liberty Ship, Victory Ship, Knot Ship, and T-2 Tanker.
 • Original Pencil Drawings by artist Robert C. Brooks (ships #1, #2, and #3), Jim Garrison (ship #4), and L. E. Noller (ships #5, 6, 7 & 8)
 • All art prints are 11” x 17” and include an accompanying 11” x 17” reproduction line drawing of that ship type giving pertinent data such as length, beam, draft, tonnage, number built, etc
 • Reproduced on 90# acid free stock and designed to fit standard 16”x20” frame when matted.
